The most valuable work does not always sit neatly inside one function, sector or existing plan. The ambition may be clear and much of the groundwork may already be done. However, progress can still stall, because what comes next
depends on decisions, relationships and intelligence. That tends to sit apart.

BUILT ACROSS BOUNDARIES

INTERNATIONAL BY DESIGN

WHAT WE DO

MIDDLELINK WORKS WITH DECISION-MAKERS IN ESTABLISHED ORGANISATIONS ON IMPORTANT WORK OUTSIDE ROUTINE BUSINESS. SOME BRING US A DEFINED INITIATIVE. OTHERS BRING A GOAL, STRATEGIC DIRECTION OR THE BELIEF THAT MORE VALUE SHOULD BE POSSIBLE. WE PROVIDE INDEPENDENT THINKING AND FOCUSED CAPACITY TO SHAPE WHAT THE WORK SHOULD BECOME AND HELP CARRY IT FORWARD.

We work across the moving parts: bringing a wider view, challenging the frame and connecting internal knowledge with external intelligence. The result may be a new initiative, a stronger route for something already underway, or a clearer decision about what deserves attention.

HOW WE WORK

Not an introductions service.
Not a conventional consultancy.

A meeting that leads nowhere is unfinished work, not a result. A recommendation is where our work usually begins, not where it ends. Your team's expertise, relationships and resources are the starting point, not something we duplicate.

HOW WE WORK

UNDERSTAND IT PROPERLY. THEN MOVE WHAT IT ACTUALLY NEEDS.

We don't force a situation into a method decided in advance. Every engagement starts by establishing what's really happening, where the decision actually sits, and what genuinely needs to move.
THE METHOD
1

GET UNDERNEATH IT

Understand the real position: what's proven, what's assumed, what's already been tried, and where the actual opportunity or constraint sits.
2

SHAPE THE ROUTE

Turn what we find into a defined possibility: who needs to be involved, what's missing, what's viable, and what the strongest path to value looks like.
3

MAKE IT MOVE

Build the relationships, structures and momentum required, and stay close enough to see it through, rather than handing over a recommendation and stepping back.
4

NO BLIND COMMITMENT

We reach a decision point together. The next phase is shaped around what the work has actually shown is needed, not a plan written before anyone looked closely. Either side may stop here.
SPECIAL PROJECTS · STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT · EMBEDDED CAPACITY

From strategic intent to something that can be acted on. Across new ventures, innovation, commercialisation, adoption, group and portfolio development, strategic partnerships, international initiatives and unusual mandates that do not fit a conventional brief.

Testimonials

Three ways to work

Every engagement is scoped privately around the work, the access required and the intended outcome. Most begin with a focused period of understanding and early movement, before either side commits further. The structure follows the mandate.

Special projects. Focused, defined and time-bound.

For one strategically important priority requiring a clear brief and a dedicated route. The work may begin with diagnosis, development or direct testing, then continue into agreed action where we can add useful capacity.

Embedded special projects offices

Longer-term, fractional capacity. Senior strategic capacity attached to the CEO, principal or responsible executive for an agreed period. We maintain a view across priorities, develop emerging areas of value, and help coordinate work that crosses internal and external boundaries. Where an embedded mandate suits better than a single project, this may be structured as a Fractional Chief Opportunity Officer role.

Private strategic mandates

Selective and discreet. For founders, owners, family members and principals who need discreet, independent capacity around a significant commercial priority, strategic transition or area worth examining. To protect the depth and discretion of the work, we accept only a limited number of private mandates each year.

FAQs

What happens in a first conversation?

A short, confidential conversation about the situation as it actually stands. No pitch, no proposal, no pressure to define a brief first. We are usually trying to establish three things: whether the opportunity genuinely crosses boundaries, who is accountable for it internally, and whether there is a credible route worth examining. If there isn't, we will say so. If there is, we set out what a focused first phase would involve before either side commits further.

What kind of work do you take on?

Special projects, strategic priorities and areas of potential that benefit from independent thinking and dedicated capacity.

Do we need a defined project?

No. You may bring an active initiative, a goal, a strategic framework or simply the belief that more should be possible.

How are you different to an introducer or consultant?

We don't fit either category cleanly. We are not an introductions service: a meeting that leads nowhere is unfinished work, not a result. We are not a conventional consultancy either: a recommendation is usually where our work begins, not where it ends. And we do not take over — your team's expertise, relationships and resources are the starting point, not something we duplicate. We work alongside the people responsible for the outcome.

How can you work across different industries?

Our specialism is seeing across functions, sectors, stakeholder groups and markets, while working with the organisation's own technical expertise. Industry-agnostic does not mean expertise-agnostic.

How are engagements structured?

As a focused special project, an embedded special projects office, or a discreet private strategic mandate. Scope and terms are provided privately.

How do you work alongside our internal team and existing advisers?

As a focused extension of the person or team already responsible, not a replacement for them. You keep ownership, context and internal authority. We add independent diagnosis, cross-sector judgment and stakeholder intelligence. Where specialist depth is needed we bring it in deliberately rather than trying to substitute for it.

Do you work with private clients?

Yes. We accept a limited number of confidential mandates from founders, owners, family members and principals each year.
